Aims of Court Skills course
By the end of the training, you will:
- Understand the principal of family law and how the family courts are structured
- A basic understanding of the Children Act 1989 and the types of family law proceedings
- A knowledge of the court process and an understanding of the roles of the different professionals
- How to support a child or young person who is subject to proceedings and what to do if the child/young person discloses significant information to you
- What to expect if you are required to attend court and how to prepare if required to give evidence

This Court Skills course has been designed specifically for people who want to know more about how family courts work. Whilst it provides focus for people working in Children's Services, it will also be useful to a wider audience of people who would like to gain a greater understanding of the process.
