This IPC training forms part of the Care Certificate course. Whether you’re new to care or refreshing your knowledge, it covers Standard 15 and supports safe infection control practices across adult social care settings.

• Describe the chain of infection and the main ways an infection can get into the body
• Demonstrate effective hand hygiene, including the NHS-recommended 11-step technique
• Identify how a worker's own health or hygiene could pose risks to those they support
• Describe the correct use and disposal of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including gloves and aprons
• Explain the principles of safe handling of soiled linen and clinical waste, including segregation by colour coding and managing blood and body fluid exposure

By the end of this Infection Prevention and Control course, you will be able to:

• Understand the chain of infection and how to break it
• Apply the 9 standard infection control precautions (SICPs) in real-world settings
• Perform NHS-compliant handwashing, knowing when and how to wash your hands
• Explain how personal hygiene, uniform, and health impact infection risk
• Know the difference between infections with bacteria and viruses, and how each spreads
• Choose appropriate PPE for different tasks and understand how to store, use and dispose
• Safely handle and dispose of infected linen and clinical waste, in accordance with safety procedures and regulations
