Course overview of Moving and Handling
Our Moving and Handling Course gives you confidence in assisting, positioning, and supporting people safely. When you apply correct handling practices, you protect yourself and those receiving care from avoidable harm.
This online training course covers safe moving and handling of people alongside core manual handling principles. By completing the course, you will explore safe handling techniques, practise with equipment, and develop the skills to apply safe systems of work in line with health and safety law.
Moving and Handling Training
This Moving and Handling training is part of our Adult Care Essentials bundle. It is included in the Skills for Care statutory and mandatory training guide. It is suitable for a range of healthcare settings, including residential care, domiciliary care, and specialist services.

- Outline the basic anatomy of the body, focusing on the spine and how it supports movement
- Identify possible injuries to individuals if safe handling practices are not followed
- Recognise the risks of injury to staff when approved techniques are ignored
- Explain the potential legal implications if an individual is harmed because of poor practice.
Roles and responsibilities
- Describe the responsibilities of your role
- Identify the limitations of your role
- Describe the roles of others in assisting and moving
- Recognise when to seek advice or assistance
Preparing the environment
- Describe why preparatory checks are necessary
- List a range of precautions for infection prevention and control
