Course overview of The Role Of The Designated Teacher
In the year ending 31 March 2022, the number of children looked after by local authorities was 82,170.
Three quarters of looked after children were in foster placements. Attainment for the looked after population is lower than national levels at all ages of assessment and the designated teacher is key in improving outcomes for looked after children and young people.
The designated teacher plays a critical role in helping school staff understand the things which affect how looked after children learn and achieve.
This course considers the Role of the Designated Teacher and the impact on outcomes for children and young people. It also explores the responsibilities of the role and gives practical advice on topics such as preparing the Personal Educational Statement. The course includes case studies and example PEPs with SMART targets. The Virtual Heads we work with have described this course as invaluable and consider it be an essential tool to train Designated Teachers.
