Understand Your Role (Care Certificate Standard 1) Course

This Understand Your Role course is designed to help you recognise your responsibilities and professional boundaries within your role in health and social care. You’ll explore what it means to work in line with your organisation’s values, standards, and agreed ways of working — and how your own experiences and attitudes can shape the care you provide.

As part of the Care Certificate online course, this training also covers the importance of partnership working, honesty, and accountability — as well as what to do when something doesn’t feel right. By the end, you’ll have a clear understanding of where your role fits within the wider care setting, helping you work confidently, safely, and compassionately as part of a team.

• How personal experiences, attitudes and beliefs affect your work
• Employment rights, responsibilities, and organisational values
• Why it’s important to work in partnership with your employer and colleagues
• Accessing up-to-date information about policies and procedures

• Being open and honest when things go wrong
• Understanding different working relationships in health and social care
• Teamwork and partnership working with others, including advocates and family members
• Seeking support and resolving conflicts

Upon completion of this course, you will:

• Understand when and how to raise concerns, and why honesty and accountability matter.

This course is ideal for Care Support Workers and members of the wider team in Health and Social Care. It’s especially relevant for those new to the sector or completing the Care Certificate, as it lays the foundations for safe, effective, and compassionate practice.
