Course overview of Food Hygiene – An Introduction
Poor food hygiene can lead to pest infestation, illness and even death. Research published by the Food Standards Agency in 2020 reported significantly higher estimates for foodborne illness than previously thought.
Good food hygiene is therefore vital to protect individuals and businesses. This introductory course looks at food hygiene and safety.
Good food hygiene is vital to protect individuals and businesses. This introductory course will cover how to take personal responsibility for food safety, the importance of food handlers and work areas being kept clean and hygienic and keeping food products safe.
You are counted as a food handler if you prepare any food for other people in a work or volunteer capacity – for example foster carers and childminders. It is important to ensure that you and your staff are up to date on good food hygiene practices.

- How individuals can take personal responsibility for food safety
- The importance of food handlers keeping themselves clean and hygienic
- The importance of keeping work areas clean and hygienic
- The importance of keeping food products safe
