Legislation, Policies & Responsibilities

  • Identify key health and safety legislation in health and social care, including RIDDOR, MHSAW, and COSHH
  • Describe main points of employer health and safety policies and procedures
  • Outline the health and safety responsibilities of yourself, your employer, and others
  • Recognise tasks that must not be carried out without special training
  • Access additional health and safety support and information

Risk Assessment

  • Explain the importance of assessing risks in different settings, situations, and activities
  • Describe how and when to report identified health and safety risks

Moving & Assisting Safely

  • Identify legislation relating to moving and assisting
  • Recognise moving and assisting tasks you must not carry out until competent
  • Demonstrate safe techniques for moving people and objects while maintaining dignity and following agreed ways of working

Accidents, Illness & First Aid

  • Identify types of accidents and sudden illness that may occur in your role
  • Follow correct procedures if an accident or sudden illness occurs
  • List the emergency first aid actions you are and are not allowed to carry out

Medication & Healthcare Tasks

  • Describe agreed ways of working for medication and healthcare tasks
  • Recognise medication and healthcare tasks you must not carry out until competent

Hazardous Substances

  • Identify hazardous substances in your workplace
  • Apply safe practices for storing, using, and disposing of hazardous substances

Fire Safety

  • Explain how to prevent fires from starting or spreading
  • Describe what to do in the event of a fire

Workplace Security

  • Describe measures to protect your own security and that of those you support
  • Follow agreed ways of working when checking the identity of anyone requesting access to premises or information
